VH-EAG ‘Southern Preservation’ was built as a C-121C for the US Air Force and delivered on October 6, 1955, to the 1608th Military Air Transport Wing based at Charleston, South Carolina.

This Connie’s last active duty was with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard from mid-1972 and relegated to storage at Davis Monthan Air Base at Tucson, Arizona, in June 1977.

In 1990 Historic Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) members from Australia were in Tucson to collect Neptune spares, saw the derelict Super Constellation and decided to recover it.

In November 1991, the Super Connie was placed in HARS care for restoration and delivery to Australia. Reliant solely on volunteer labour (ex-Connie pilots and ground crew), the project took five years.

Rstoration work started in May 1992 at the Pima Air & Space Museum. In September 1994 the Super Constellation took to the air after nearly 18 years on the ground.

Another solid year of work was needed to prep her for the Pacific crossing and in late 1995 final flight training was conducted. On February 3, 1996, the Super Constellation arrived in Sydney after an incident-free crossing of 39.5 hours flying time. Stops on the delivery flight were made at Oakland (US), Honolulu (Hawaii), Pago Pago (Samoa) and Nadi (Fiji).
